Eye Care and Vision
The clinic offers comprehensive visual examination for children and teenagers. Specialising in vision assessments for patients with suspected/diagnosed specific learning difficulties or binocular vision problems.
Good vision is very important in a normal learning environment.
A large number of children who are under achieving at school have coexisting vision problems that can contribute to their learning difficulty. Anyone who is struggling at school should have an eye test. However some children benefit from a more comprehensive assessment of their vision, particularly if they appear to have unresolved symptoms.
Signs of visual problems include: blurred vision, tired eyes, double vision when reading, movement or jumping of text, skipping lines or words, poor concentration, slow reading or copying speed, or just a reluctance to read. Young children are not always able to describe what they see or recognise that they have a visual problem.
An examination at the clinic includes appropriate tests of eye sight, as well as a detailed assessment of binocular vision, accommodation and eye movements. Supplementary tests for visual processing, spatial awareness and for visual stress (formerly Meares-Irlen syndrome) are carried out where appropriate.
Remedies include glasses, vision training/orthoptics, coloured overlays or a combination. Referrals are made to other professionals where necessary. A comprehensive visual examination is an important part of a multidisciplinary approach to helping individuals with specific learning difficulties and/or unexplained visual symptoms.
